{Whatever Wednesday} WRAD

Happy World Read Aloud Day!
“The fire of literacy is created by the emotional sparks between a child, a book, and the person reading. It isn’t achieved by the book alone, nor by the child alone, nor by the adult who’s reading aloud—it’s the relationship winding between all three, bringing them together in easy harmony.”
Mem Fox, Reading Magic: Why Reading Aloud to Our Children Will Change Their Lives Forever

Join the {Whatever Wednesday} meme, hosted by my friend David Etkin over at Eat the Book.  {Whatever Wednesday} is a chance to post something you've seen that you really liked...or as David says...you've "really been diggin"!

My Favorite Day is Coming!

Children's author Katherine Paterson once said "The best way to cultivate [children's] tastes is to read to them, starting at birth and keeping on and on. 'Let me hear you read' is a test, 'Let me read to you' is a gift."

On Wednesday, March 6, 2013 people all around the world will be celebrating the gift of reading aloud. World Read Aloud Day , sponsored by LitWorld, is about taking action to show the world that the right to read and write belongs to every person, regardless of race, age, or economic situation. It is intended to motivate children, teens, and adults worldwide to celebrate the power of words, especially those words that are shared from one person to another.

It's not too early to start planning! Here's a look at how my school celebrated World Read Aloud last year.
